At Lowell Community-Based Safe Heaven LLC (LCBSH), our prime goal is to enrich the lives of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Situated in the heart of Lowell, Massachusetts, we are dedicated to building a supportive environment where our residents can thrive and realize their full potential.
Our mission is to improve the comfort of individuals facing developmental and intellectual disabilities, mental health challenges, and substance-use disorders. We strive to empower these individuals through personalized care plans that encourage personal growth, foster social connections, and promote active community involvement.
We recognize that traditional care models often fail to meet the needs of people with disabilities, leading to challenges like inadequate support, stigmatization, and isolation. LCBSH offers a different approach, providing tailored care programs focusing on life skills, self-care, socialization, and integration into the community. Our comfortable, home-like setting helps to alleviate psychological stress, fostering a sense of belonging and independence.
We close the gap in care by offering specialized programs that address a variety of needs, including support for homelessness and substance abuse. Our life coaching and mentorship services help guide individuals toward positive life choices and connect them with valuable community resources.
We understand the significance of a comforting environment. Our live-in care services and dedicated care homes promote recovery and well-being, eliminating the psychological stress often associated with traditional care facilities.
LCBSH takes a non-intrusive approach to supporting and integrating individuals into a family-like atmosphere. We encourage a strong sense of belonging and active community participation, helping to reduce the fear of stigmatization and isolation.
We are dedicated to providing cost-effective, high-quality care. By securing grants, funds, and potential sponsorships, we ensure everyone, including those with limited financial means, can receive the support they need.
The founder of Lowell Community-Based Safe Heaven LLC brings firsthand experience shaped by years spent in Kenya’s Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps. Living in these conditions exposed him to the everyday struggles of individuals with disabilities and those who cared for them. Those early observations shaped his desire to help.
After moving to the United States, he studied at Middlesex Community College and UMass Lowell. While in school, he held leadership roles, mentored peers, and volunteered as a case manager. However, a part-time caregiving job at a nursing home had the most substantial impact. Daily tasks like reading to residents or helping them feel seen reminded him why this work mattered.
He briefly worked in accounting after graduation but soon left the field. He chose to return to caregiving and joined the Needs Center. Starting in direct care, he later moved into program coordination. He focused on supporting staff, building systems that worked, and creating mentorship opportunities for new caregivers. One of his efforts led to a noticeable drop in staff turnover.
He also advocates outside the workplace. He’s spoken at community events, helped create workshops for families, and pushed for funding to support caregiver training. He partnered with a local college to create a small scholarship fund for students interested in caregiving careers.
His focus remains steady: support the individual, respect the caregiver, and ensure everyone is part of the conversation. These values are now part of the foundation of LCBSH.
LCBSH is a community that empowers individuals with disabilities to lead meaningful, fulfilling lives. Whether you’re seeking care for yourself or a loved one or wish to support our mission, we invite you to join us in making a difference.
